43 Views from a Train Window
Through the metaphorical lens of a train window, “43 Views” is a storefront projection that explores the ever-shifting perspectives encountered while traversing Japan’s countryside. Spanning the distances from Kanto to Kyushu and Shikoku to Kansai, this 39-minute time-based loop encapsulates the ever-evolving transformation and extensive industrialization of the outlying areas between urban centers.

Reishi and IIII
Reishi and IIII is a Reishi mushroom sculpture using found objects as an armature. Reishi and IIII tells a story of a wooden room divider, found in a dumpster, re-naturalizing with the help of Reishi mushrooms. The mushroom sculpture will be displayed suspended over a six-foot hole in Untidy Objects from October 1st to November 15th, 2023. After the Biennial, the hole will be filled up and the mycelium network will live on underground as the mushrooms will break down the wooden structure helping it reintegrate to the natural ecology at Untidy Objects. Silence is ______. Beep. Beep. Beep.
“Silence is ________. Beep. Beep. Beep.” is an interactive sculpture and sound installation imagined as a place for quiet reflection. Visitors can enter the structure through the elastic threads and sit, focusing attention on the breath, as in meditation, or on the surrounding sights and sounds of urban life as they mix with the sounds of nature and a wash of binaural beats. With roots in ancient practices such as shamanic drumming or the use of gongs, bells, and meditative chanting, binaural beats can effectively produce desirable therapeutic states associated with each type of brainwave.

Robert Anderson
Enoki
This mushroom-inspired installation invites viewers to engage with the natural world and its ability to offer solace, refuge, and a place to belong. To align with Terrain's overall and specific mission, Anderson gave particular consideration to how enoki mushrooms grow...many individuals, connected at the base and forming a group. Like the fascinating interconnectedness of mycelium, may we recognize what unites us even if it may sometimes be obscured.
