Tired

"Tired" is made of thousands of reclaimed bicycle innertubes and a metal pipe armature. It's construction was motivated by loss and grief after a death.

PHOENIX

Phoenix is a vertical and horizontal anthropomorphic form with a risen ( vertical)copper colored form above a horizontal concrete form that is allowed to deteriorate over the duration of the exhibition. It is as if the Human-plant-bird form has risen from its decayed state.

Bending Cultivators

This work was made from materials on hand. Combining the imagery of nature and consumer plastic side by side, I am interested in shining a light on the abundance of plastic and how it is infiltrating our environments.

Bethany Cordero
"Architecture of Becoming"

This work questions what it means to hold oneself together through layered time—what softens, what endures, and how materials, like memory or identity, are reshaped by the forces that surround them. The salvaged textiles speak to histories of use and care, while the ceramics offer both structural presence and subtle fragility. Together, they form a vertical body that will shift aesthetically through weather, sun, rain, and decay. The textiles will fray and bleach; the clay may stain or crack; The paper will undoubtedly disintegrate, and the steel will rust—all changes welcomed as part of the sculpture’s living evolution.

Silence is _________. beep beep. beep

Silence is ________. Beep. Beep. Beep. invites visitors into a quiet, semi-sheltered space entered through elastic threads that create a subtle barrier from the outside world. Inside, the sounds of urban life—traffic, voices, sirens—intertwine with birdsong, wind, and rustling leaves. This merging of human-made and natural soundscapes creates a contemplative environment for reflection and sensory awareness. Optional binaural beats further deepen the experience, guiding listeners toward meditative states and encouraging a heightened awareness of presence.

The Ugly Truth

THE UGLY TRUTH The blue of the purported “truth” of the Democratic party overlays the “ugly” orange of the current administration. The red is the Republican party, sidelined under Trump. The reality is that the these parties may not have been as far apart as we might like to think. Many attacks on civil liberties have taken place during Democratic administrations. Trump’s administration is unapologetic in his flagrant disregard for anyone else’s interests and the Democrats seem unable or unwilling to break with the system that has also served their interests. And that is the ugly truth that we live.

Into the Surreal

Immerse yourself in an illogical scenario where you can embrace the comforts of the midwest with elements of detail and surprise.  Enjoy a bit of the absurd as you see familiar sightings and relevant cultural references, albeit unexpected.  Using household materials and odds and end from my creative stash, you will see the "Fun Farm", the forest and cemetery "Spooky Hollow and Pet Cemetery",  the "Babel" playground, the "Smithing Railroad", the "Cdog" Express, the Zoo "Funland" and more.  Find the Avery Syrup Building and the Monster Rum.  Imagine an I-spy of the bizarre.

Pia Cruzalegui
Romeria

Marea Cordero
Ancestor Planted and Rooted

This life-sized, hand cut, vinyl drawing of a woman with traditional indigenous Filipino tattoos represents the artist's "ancestor." She is nestled in tropical greenery within the world of a native Illinois pollinator garden. She is sleeping but present. Like the cultural journey Marea has taken in her Filipino heritage, she represents a piece of one's history waiting to grow. Like a plant bulb waiting for the new season to bloom, we see her taking root. She has motion and stillness both within her. "It has been a real journey to seek more knowledge and history of my ancestors especially after the passing of my father."-Marea (Judilla) Cordero

Skimming over the botanical foliage of Oak Park Art League's courtyard garden, FLOW , transforms plantings into a coral seascape with manatees and sea creatures floating above the plants as if they are inhabiting a coral reef.

Anatomy of an Anthophile

The tapestry was originally inspired by Marea’s corresponding work in this installation. By referencing her theme of the female form in a rooting state, I was able to expand on my own interpretation. I explored themes of fertility, motherhood and sexual empowerment. The female body, vines and flowers create a visual interpretation of how the “love hormone” oxytocin (which is released during orgasms, childbirth & breastfeeding) plays a role in the physical and spiritual state of women. Choosing to embrace and find beauty in the ever evolving body and mind.

Balance & Tension, Scaling Up

I use domestic objects to make assemblage sculptures about life and juggling all the things. Many of the pieces in the Balance & Tension series have implied movement, they’re in the act of falling, or look like they’re about to fall, but they don’t, because as a mom, I’m holding it all together. That’s what these pieces are about. We all have this push/pull in our lives, this juggling.

Something Nicer

“Something Nicer" is something thoughtful and subversive. In a world where political discourse often feels extreme or overwhelming, something nicer offers the political in a more poetic way. Craft, historically, has served as a powerful form of expression and resistance, and I continue that tradition through handmade ceramic works and thinking of creativity outside of its presentation within white walled gallery spaces—they're meant to live among plants and landscapes, to blend with nature and spark connection. The ceramic flowers and sculptures carry brief, resonant words that echo common feelings or thoughts, meant to be discovered, contemplated, and shared.
