Yaksha - A Portrait in Earth and Spirit
Yaksha is a site-specific Kaavi art mural honouring Havanje Manjunatha Rao—a Yakshagana artist, poet, guru, and farmer who has dedicated over five decades to this coastal theatre tradition. By day, he tends paddy fields and cattle; by night, he transforms into mythic characters, embodying both earth and lore. His photographed portrait will be reimagined and etched in lime and mud paddy soil, blending portraiture, performance, and agriculture. Installed on a roadside wall near Bhaasa Gallery, Havanje, the mural becomes both an homage and a portal—celebrating living heritage while engaging the community in reflection, memory, and devotion.
