Over the past several years I have included natural dyes in my studio practice. I grow plants such as zinnia, indigo, and cup plant in my yard to use in my textile work. For Yardage, I harvested a variety of plants in my yard to create a diverse palette on cotton fiber. Each plant was used as a dye on its own, then with indigo, iron, and iron plus indigo. Thus, each plant is represented by four different colors in this piece. This activity is a tangible record of the plants and the colors they yield.
