Nostalgia is grief disguised, trauma enveloped in packaging. It is the wants and desires of our former self, one we barely knew. We look back with admiration and fondness because somehow some way we are here now. Memory compounds in layers like strata and the fragments of time stack together in moments. Each bit of absurdity and the mundane compressing together. Nostalgia excavates those layers for me, bringing pieces to the surface. My interest lies in how memories and trauma affect our identity and perception of self.
