Foundations of Character
An examination of the symbiotic relationship between space and body. How do the buildings we work, live and learn in effect the individual, and in turn how the individuals in those spaces effect the buildings we create.

Amy Fleming, b. 1994, is an artist who is exploring themes of belief, evidence, reality, and the need for human connection. Photography as her main choice of medium, she often turns to her camera as a way to cope. Reflecting on past trauma, she is providing evidence to make the viewers believe that these traumas and feelings are actually part of her reality.

Its Underneath Concrete Now
I think a lot about the crooked concrete patio in my childhood backyard that was falling apart and was never repaired.
This series of abstracted concrete slabs help me communicate back to the space i loved the most. The deep late night conversations in the backyard, laying in the grass watching bugs form dance circles around the concrete cracks. All the what ifs and conversations that lingered through the grass came above and underneath the concrete slab.

Botanical Path and Blue Dream
The works of art consist of the evolutions of euphorias, and how nature is an escape in reality, to which we can explore further world within ourselves in the cycle of life.

The Day of the Triffids, 1963
I excavate material from VHS cassettes to discuss how information is processed, nostalgia, and memory. My mother ran a video store in the 1990’s, where I spent much of my time playing among the walls of VHS boxes. During these formative years of my life, I made a connection to these objects and imagery. By disrupting the film sequence, I cut the magnetic tape and reassemble the film using clear adhesive tape creating new narratives.
The Day of the Triffids, 1963 is a science fiction horror film about extraterrestrial spores that take root on Earth after a meteor shower leaving most of the population without sight. Earth is invaded by humanized plants leaving the protagonists to live in this new and hostile environment.

Six years ago, I began to understand that my sculptures are 3-D drawings in space. This started out as an affirmation of that using some of my favorite shapes in space from Wucius Wong. It then became a celebration of my daughter and most recently my Mother, who passed away this spring.
