Shift
1021 Union St., Alameda, CA, 94501
"Shift” is a textile installation that functions as both map and letter to the community that pleasurably disorients and reorients viewers. “Shift” centers on flux, touching on a recurring theme in Harvey’s work: spaces of the in-between. Made of zippers, thread and digital prints (on fabric) sourced from Harvey’s original collages drawing from textile imagery, "Shift" is a mash-up of text from letters written by poet Emily Dickinson to her beloved, Susan Gilbert, that speak to Emily’s joy at being in Susan’s presence. Its imagery also echoes Alameda’s shifting shorelines.
