Sherry Antonini
T-Shirt Salvage

This piece combines original text with reclaimed t-shirt scraps that are knotted and fastened to form lines of connectivity. The work references ideas relating to generic labor uniforms, castoff clothing donated to the impoverished, casual downtime fashion of the upper class, and go-to attire across both rural and urban lifestyle settings. The text is based on word play combinations underscoring the complex dynamic of these ideas and their ultimate, linked relationships. Working with the reclaimed tees required hours of knotting, resulting in a repeated, meditative gesture with a focus on reconnection and possibilities of new and alternative bonds taking shape.

Animal Connections

“Animal Connections” is an installation of large, painted cut out images of animals on up-cycled marine plywood. The animals have been chosen for their connectivity to human cultures. With art connecting people with each other, the subject of this art installation is based on nature represented through iconic animals that bring us together and that we find are dear to our hearts. The human/animal connection represents the vast, unseen connection of nature by the amazing Mycelium under our feet.
