98% Air is an ongoing project by Minneapolis artist, Presley Martin. It consists of 1000’s of pieces of plastic foam collected from the Mississippi River. Visitors to 98% Air often initially mistake the foam for rocks, pieces of wood, or other unidentifiable chunks of nature. Seeing what look like rocks on the end of thin supports causes people to look twice. The slowly dawning realization of their nature as styrofoam raises questions and conversations about the source of the foam.
